Same $50 sale, fees only

Take one item that sells for $50 and cost you $6. Fees as of October 2026, from each marketplace's official fee page, before any shipping you pay:

• eBay: $7.20 (13.6% + $0.40 per order, most categories; 13.6% applies to item plus shipping) → $36.80 after fees and item cost.
• Etsy: $3.25 transaction fee + $0.20 listing fee, plus payment processing fees → under $40.55.
• Depop (US): no selling fee; processing 3.3% + $0.45 = $2.10 on the item (more once shipping and tax are added) → about $41.90.
• Poshmark: $10.00 (20% on sales over $15) → $34.00.
• Mercari: $5.00 (10%, plus 10% of any buyer-paid shipping) → $39.00.
• Facebook Marketplace: $0 on local cash sales → $44.00; $5.00 (10%) on orders paid through Facebook → $39.00.

Shipping is the cost most sellers underestimate

On a low-price item, a shipping label can cost more than the platform's fee. Weigh and price the parcel before you list, and check who pays the label on each marketplace.

Methodology and sources

Every number in the table above is taken from the platform's own published seller-fee or policy page for US sellers, not from third-party blogs or estimates. Shipping figures are the platform's own discounted label pricing for a 1–3 lb domestic parcel, except Poshmark, which publishes a single flat Priority rate. Percentages are standard-category rates: category exceptions, Store subscriptions, promoted-listing ad rates and seller-level discounts can all move the real number, so treat the table as the baseline and check your own category before pricing a large batch.

Last verified: October 7, 2026. Marketplaces change fees several times a year, so each source page below is re-checked on a recurring basis and this date is updated when the figures are confirmed or corrected. If you spot a stale rate, the official page linked below is always authoritative over this one. Mercari's move to a buyer-paid model is a recent example of why this matters.
